Welcome to my blog, Terran Philosophy. This space will feature original content on philosophy, and is intended as a vehicle for the non-technical popularisation of academic topics, as well as an outlet for other occasional musings and commentary.
Why ‘Terran’ Philosophy? The adjective ‘Terran’ has been used in science fiction for many decades to refer to something or someone from Earth. Being Earth (and perhaps the International Space Station) the only places where we know that philosophy has been made, my philosophy is surely Terran (I haven’t been up there at the ISS yet).
But ‘Terran’ suggests much more. It brings to mind an ideal of universal harmonious unity in diversity, a non-parochial outlook that cherishes our essential sameness while embracing many identities, experiences, and backgrounds, and a will to work together to overcome problems identified under basic common values and goals.
Welcome!
